NEW: Taylor Swift’s Endorsement Turns More Voters From Harris Than it Attracts: poll

Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, may not have the impact she hoped for. A new YouGov poll, released Saturday, revealed that 8% of voters are “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for the Democratic ticket following Swift’s support. However, a larger group, 20%, said they are “somewhat” or “much less likely” to vote for Harris and Walz as a result of Swift’s endorsement.

The majority of respondents, 66%, stated that Swift’s political endorsement would not influence their vote in the upcoming election.

In an Instagram post to her 283 million followers shortly after the debate, Swift explained her decision: “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.” She praised Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” capable of governing with “calm and not chaos.”

According to the poll, 32% of participants believed Swift’s endorsement would have a positive impact on Harris’ campaign, while 27% felt it wouldn’t make a difference either way.

Interestingly, 41%—nearly 460 respondents—thought the “Shake It Off” singer should refrain from speaking publicly about politics, while 38% supported her making public endorsements.

Among the poll’s respondents, 66% did not identify as fans of Swift, while 28% considered themselves fans, and 6% claimed to be “big fans.” Most of Swift’s most dedicated fans were women and registered Democrats.

Swift’s endorsement caused a surge in traffic to voter registration site Vote.gov, reports showed, continuing into Wednesday afternoon.

Despite Swift’s endorsement and the post-debate analysis, 46% of voters believed Harris won the debate, while 19% favored Trump. However, only 6% of voters said the debate caused them to reconsider their vote, and 76% indicated it did not change their decision.
