When Cuomo testified, it was not under oath, but with the understanding that he could face criminal prosecution if his testimony is dishonest. Well, THAT’s gonna be a problem for him.
When he testified this summer about the COVID nursing home scandal where elderly peoples’ lives were endangered by COVID-positive patients being sent to nursing homes to recuperate, despite nursing homes housing the one demographic for whom COVID was the most lethal, he distanced himself from the language of the State Health Department Report.
Between health care workers and the NYPD in the ‘summer of love’, that ‘Covid Hero’ appreciation faded awfully quickly in NYC, didn’t it?
The latest plot twist in that story is — contrary to Andrew Cuomo’s testimony this summer — he really DID have a hand in the language of the July 2020 report that Congress has described as ‘a coverup’.
Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo personally altered a state review that lowballed the nursing home COVID-19 death count, emails detailed in a new report show – a revelation that directly contradicts his claims he had nothing to do with it.
Emails and congressional documents undercut Cuomo’s defiant assertion during a summer congressional grilling that he never saw or even had any memory of the state Health Department report, the New York Times first reported.
“Governor’s edits are attached for your review,” Cuomo’s assistant wrote to the then-governor’s senior staff in June 2020, the Times report states.
The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic alleged Cuomo’s office “edited” the report, but the emails obtained by the Times suggest his role was even more hands-on.
Cuomo grilled by House panel over NY’s COVID nursing-home deaths: “Don’t see a lot of remorse.”
He personally inserted text blaming employees and visiting family and friends at nursing homes for spreading COVID and contributing to deaths, the Times report states.
Cuomo, during private questioning by House members in June, claimed he did not review a draft of the nursing home death report before it was released.
He said he didn’t recall reviewing, editing or speaking about the report before it was issued July 7, 2020, according to a transcript. — NYPost
Will distraught relatives of those who died needlessly in retirement homes ever get to see their wish of Andrew Cuomo sporting an orange jumpsuit?
It’s probably a long shot.
But we can’t rule it out entirely.
In a state whose legal system has become so partisan, it almost comes down to a question of which way the political winds are blowing, doesn’t it?
This is exactly the reason we do NOT want a politicized legal system.
